SALONA, KLIS & TROGIR
Salona is perfect for those who are fans of ancient Rome. We’ll take you to one of the capitals of province Dalmatia. Ancient ruins of Salona, stood here 2000 years ago and it was one of the biggest towns in Roman empire with more than 60000 inhabitants. Our next stop will be a small village of Klis, home of the bravest soldiers in history of medieval Dalmatia. Located on a steep cliff this fortress was castle to many Croatian kings and its main purpose was to defend the locals from the Ottoman invasion at the beginning of the 16th century.
Today, Klis is much more famous as a part of a filming location of HBO’s blockbuster “Game of Thrones” representing the city of Meereen. Our last stop is sugar at the end. We’ll head to Trogir, a town museum with history dating all the way to the first colonies on Mediterranean, ancient Greeks. We can’t disregard the influence of Romans who had a huge impact on the cultural and architectural style of Trogir. Venetians were among the longest rulers in Trogir but we’ll also find traces of Napoleon as well as Austrians.
